A few new tools to boost your business

April 13, 2010

I just finished looking through “20 Tools to Bring Your Real Estate Business to the Cloud” by Joel Burslem of 1000 Watt Consulting. He put together the slide deck based on the last Virtual RE Bar Camp.

Although I was unable to attend the Bar Camp, Joel’s slides introduced me to a few new FREE technologies that I believe are especially valuable to real estate agents. These are Phonebooth, Dropbox, and Expensify.

Phonebooth
This is a web-based inbound phone system that is perfect for small businesses, freelancers and independent professionals. It provides you with your own business phone number and sophisticated call routing and combines that with your existing mobile phones to ensure that any business can sound like a big business. This is a pretty cool option for people who work from home or are always on the road and it fits perfectly with Connect’s business model. And it’s FREE! This video does a great job explaining how Phonebooth can boost your business.

Dropbox

Dropbox allows you to sync your files online and across your computers automatically. It also allows you to share files and automatically stores a copy of your files on Dropbox’s secure servers. This is an incredibly useful tool for the agent on the go who needs to access his/her files across multiple computers and devices. I am always going back and forth between  my laptop at home, my desktop at work, my Blackberry on the road, and occasionally I have to jump on someone’s computer to check or print something. Now I don’t have to worry about emailing things to myself or copying them onto a flashdrive. Love it! And I love that it’s FREE for up to 2 GB.

Expensify

Expensify helps you create expense reports that don’t suck. Finally, you can do away with paper receipts! You can set up your account to directly import your expenses. What’s even cooler for me is that I can take a quick picture of a receipt on my Blackberry (through the Expensify app, they also have one for iPhone, Android, and Palm) and send it directly to my account in just a few clicks. No more receipts for me! You can also easily export to QuickBooks and email full color PDFs of reports. And it’s FREE!
