Blogging tips- keep moving forward!

May 11, 2010

At this point, we all know the importance of blogging. We all see the benefits, we all know we should, we all want to do it, but we don’t get around to it.

Stuck

Scott Levitt talks in this post about real estate agents who will report how they’re “working harder to grow their business and make more money” by “you know, putting in more hours, getting out there more.” Sounds like a pretty cloudy business plan if you ask me.

He goes on to say that about 75% of these agents, when asked, can’t at all answer the question: “What are you doing to become better at your career?”

Doing the same old “putting in more hours” or “getting out there more” is the equivalent of staying in neutral in your car. You’ve got to throw that car out of neutral, into drive, and keep moving forward. How do you do that?

Although our primary business is real estate, blogging is one facet of a well-devised plan that can make your business better and, in turn, bigger.

For those of us who want to make our business better, here are “5 Secrets to Writing a Blog Post in 15 Minutes” thanks to Katie Lance of Inman News:

  1. Have an ongoing topic list (we want to hear about personal and business life, stories, local events and news, etc.)
  2. Write a quick outline
  3. Google search your topic
  4. Proofread
  5. Always know what your must have’s are for each blog post
